Pitchers
Zac Gallen (vs. CWS)
This is definitely the last chance for Gallen to have any sort of trust of this season or beyond. The White Sox rank 4th in SO over the season and 1st in the league over the last two weeks. Chicago also ranks last in the league in wOBA and second bottom in xBA. A bright note for Gallen is his improved ERA on the road vs. at home and has 44 SO in 43 IP.
Jacob Misirowski (vs. PIT)
The 6’7 right-hander has been electric in his first taste of the big leagues. He has posted a 1.64 ERA in 11 IP with 11 SO. His fastball velocity ranks 99th in the league at fastball velocity and best in extension (7.7). The Pirates offense ranks 2nd worst in wOBA and 3rd worst in WOBACON this season. Pittsburgh strikes out the second-most in the NL behind the Rockies. I love the big rookie to keep pace with Paul Skenes this afternoon.
Max Scherzer (vs. CLE)
The former Cy Young winner is slated to rejoin the Blue Jays in Cleveland coming off a thumb injury. In his rehab starts, he pitched 4.1 innings in each and struck out eight. Cleveland has the league’s 5th-worst wOBA against RHP and rank last in xBA this season (.229). Progressive Field ranks as the fourth-worst place to hit over the last three seasons. Cleveland is fourth worst in the league in batting average at home (.233).
Zack Wheeler (vs. HOU)
Wheeler has been even more dominant than usual on the mound. In his last seven starts, he has a 1.71 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, and 52 SO in 43 IP. It gets even better in the month of June, in just three starts he has a 1.06 ERA with 24 SO in 17 IP. Wheeler has a 1.50 ERA with 13 SOs in 12 IP in his career against Houston. The Philly right-hander has elite ranks this season in xERA (2.36), xBA (1.96), and K % (32.9).
Others to consider:
Yoshinobu Yamamoto (vs. COL)
Be careful with this game in Denver. Yamamoto only has one start at Coors, but a 3.60 ERA in 5 IP. The Rockies strike out more than any other team in the league.
Logan Webb (vs. MIA)
Good spot for Webb pitching vs. Marlins who rank in the bottom third in slugging % on the road this season. Webb has a 1.35 ERA in eight games started at home this season.
Batters
Wenceel Perez (vs. ATH)
Perez had two hits last night and should be back in the lineup vs. LHP Jorge Lopez. He has been mashing against lefties this season, he has an OPS of 1.453 and has six home runs in his first 75 at-bats in the show. Lopez has struggled with a 6.92 ERA in road games and allowing left-handed hitters to bat .269. While not qualified, Perez has elite ranks in xBA (.310) and LA sweet-spot (43.3).
Ben Rice (vs. CIN)
Rice had a solo home run last night in the Yankees loss, but has been slugging .708 over his last seven games. Rice has a better OPS on the road this season (.843) vs. at home (.792) with more home runs. The first baseman ranks in the top three percent of the league in xwOBA (.412), xSLG (.581), and hard-hit % (54.9). Great American Ball Park ranks has the best spot for left-handed home runs over the past three seasons on average.
Carlos Correa (vs. SEA)
Correa has been as hot as anyone recently, he is slashing .440/.517/.600 over the past week. He is on a four-game hit streak and has hits in five of his last six games. Target Field has ranked as the 5th best park to hit in over the last three seasons. Correa is hitting .301 at home vs. .228 on the road this season. Kirby has struggled with a 6.32 ERA on the road this season. Correa is having a good year facing Seattle with an OPS of 1.161 on the season.
James Wood (vs. SDP)
Wood is facing his former employer this week, along with a host of other Nationals’ who were sent to D.C. for Juan Soto. He already has six RBIs this series to continue his hot last two weeks where Wood is slashing .322/.420/.678 with six home runs. Pivetta has struggled in June with an ERA of 6.23. Wood has an OPS of .981 vs. RHP along with 15 of his 22 home runs. He ranks in the top 2% of the league in xSLG, average exit velocity, and barrel and hard-hit %.
Ketel Marte (vs. CWS)
With a plethora of injuries to some key bats, Arizona has to rely on Marte and others to step up if they want to make a playoff push. Marte has done just that, he has homered in back-to-back games on the Southside and is slugging .600 over the last two weeks. White Sox starter Sean Burke has struggled to a 5.63 ERA in three June starts. Marte has the best xBA in the league this year (.321) and ranks in the top two % in xwOBA (.438) and xSLG (.617).
Others to Consider
Nick Castellanos (vs. HOU)
Slashing .345/.367/.545 over the last week. He has an .816 OPS vs. LHP this season.
Byron Buxton (vs. SEA)
Slugging .804 over the last two weeks and has a .998 OPS at home this season.
